Halal

Halal-certified products are produced and processed according to Islamic dietary guidelines, verified by an accredited certifying body.

Halal certification on Community FarmTable confirms that meat and poultry products have been slaughtered by a Muslim who recites the name of Allah (Bismillah) before the cut, that the animal was alive and healthy at the time of slaughter, and that the blood is completely drained from the carcass.

Our halal partner farms use hand slaughter methods whenever possible, and all products are processed in facilities that are inspected to prevent cross-contamination with non-halal products. Certification is renewed annually with unannounced inspections.

Beyond the slaughter process, halal certification also prohibits alcohol in any food processing and restricts certain additives and flavorings. Our halal-certified farms maintain rigorous ingredient sourcing logs that are available for inspection upon request.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who certifies halal products?+
Recognized halal certifying organizations such as ISNA, IFANCA, or HFA inspect and certify halal products. We verify the certifying body for each partner farm.
Does halal certification apply to all food types?+
Halal applies primarily to meat, poultry, and ingredients derived from animals. Many plant-based products are inherently halal unless they contain alcohol-derived ingredients.
Is hand-slaughtered always required?+
Traditional halal requires hand slaughter. Some certifying bodies permit machine slaughter under specific conditions. Our partner farms specify which method they use on each product listing.
